A fun, free, practical workshop run by Camden Inspiration Market’s Writer in Residence Aoife Mannix in partnership with Tudor Allen, Senior Archivist. No experience necessary.

The fascinating Camden archives will be used as inspiration for creative writing. Work produced will be included in a showcase event at the British Museum and then toured around the borough.

Jacob Sam-La Rose, a poet of Guyanese heritage concerned with the evolution of culture and tradition in memorialising losses and celebrating gains, as well as the notion and power of transformation and synthesis in art and everyday life reads alongside Aoife Mannix, an Irish poet and novelist interested in storytelling, memory, place and identity. 24 HOUR BOOK PROJECT
In collaboration with if:book, The Society of Young Publishers and CompletelyNovel.com, Spread the Word commissioned The 24 Hour Book, a groundbreaking project that challenged a group of writers to write a new story about London in just 24 hours. The lead writer was Kate Pullinger and writers participating included Sarah Butler, Kati Rynne, Aoife Mannix, Dean Atta, Cath Drake, Ben Payne, Chris Meade, Toni Le Busque, Saradha Soobrayen and Shamim Azad. Lemn Sissay headlines a rousing evening exploring freedom of expression and cultural identity through personal narrative, explosive verse and beautiful, brain-tingling poetry. Lemn is joined by Jacob Sam-La Rose, Aoife Mannix and host Malika Booker.

Exeter Central Library celebrates National Poetry Day

Exeter Central Library will be celebrating National Poetry Day on Thursday 8 October with a combination of live poetry and music.

Starting at 7:30pm, award-winning poet Aoife Mannix and musician Janie Armour will be performing their lyrical and haunting mix of spoken word and accordion. Also, the acclaimed young Devonian musician and singer, Jim Causley from the band Mawkin:Causley – ‘Best Group’ nominees at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards – will be bringing his exciting version of traditional and contemporary songs to the stage.

Then, on Saturday 10 October from 11am to 1pm, the library is hosting a poetry writing workshop. Aoife Mannix, poet and skilled writing tutor, will show people how best to flex their creative muscles, and develop their poetic voice.

Tickets for both events are now available from Exeter Central Library, or by telephoning 01392 384200.  Tickets cost £5, or £3 concessionary for over 65s and under 18s, and people with disabilities.  Places for the workshop are limited, so the library advises people to book early.
